The Division of Nuclear Medicine is responsible for providing care to Styria and southern Burgenland. Our range of services includes tests on different biological samples (and materials), radiobiological tests, tests on different organs/organ systems and outpatient therapies. The division participates in extensive national and international research collaborations.
The patient is our most important customer. We constantly endeavor to deliver state-of-the-art medicine to which he or she is entitled. This includes individualized administration of radioactive substances or radioactive drugs according to the latest developments and knowledge. Nuclear medicine provides images of different body functions using scintigraphy or (increasingly) with positron emission tomography (PET, PET/CT) of the entire body and the individual organs. Because of the large number of radioactive drugs and their patient-specific application, nuclear medicine is recognized as a pioneering discipline in personalized medicine.
In the past year, our division performed 30,210 tests on patients of all ages with primarily oncologic, cardiac, neurological, psychiatric, endocrine, musculoskeletal and acute medical concerns. With the current pandemic, the discipline increasingly faces new challenges regarding special issues in both early diagnosis and early detection of late sequelae.
The uniqueness and the added value of our division are the result of the symbiosis between patient care, research and education. The division is jointly operated by the Medical University of Graz and the Styrian Hospital Association (KAGes). This interdisciplinary cooperation between both providers at the University Hospital Graz site is also reflected on our website. More information on patient care can be found at the University Hospital Graz website.
